  • Notes
    • "AryAnna married John W. Crawford on February 28, 1889, in Gonzales. He had evidently been married previously also, for two of his sons lived with the couple at the time of the census of 1900. They were Charles F., born in February of 1881, and John A. born in March of 1884. This somewhat confusing, since they have the same first names as AryAnna's and Martin Broers' sons. Their middle names and dates of birth, however, clearly identify them as John's children by a previous marriage. Crawford's occupation at the time is not legible on the microfilm, but AryAnna's is listed as "Bees and honey." They had a boarder by the name of JCC Abraham, a "day laborer." On April 2, 1924, Lot 3 Bk 10 Badger Addition was sold by AryAnna Crawford to Mamie B. Rose.
John Crawford died in 1932. An obituary in the January 3, 1933, issue of The Gonzales Inquirer states that he was a former city alderman and was buried in the I.O.O.F. cemetery on New Year's Day 1933. The funeral was conducted by "his pastor of First Presbyterian Church."

"Gonzales lost one of her veneralbe and warmly esteemed citizens this morning in the passing of J.W. Crawford, who died at the family residence on North Hamilton Street at 7:45.
The end came following a short illness of flu-pneumonia. Mr Crawford had been very feeble for some time and suffered an illness about a month ago and when it was realized he had developed pneumonia little hope was held out for his recovery.
Surviving him are his wife, stepson, C.F. Broer of Harlingen, and a steop daughter, Mrs. W.H. Rose of Yoakum. The latter was at his bedside when the end came, coming up to care for him and Mrs. Crawford when they were taken ill.
Mr. Crawford was a native of Georgia and was born March 12, 1851, reaching the age of 81 years, 9 months and 19 days.
he came to Gonzales many years ago when a comparatively young man and here he passed the greater part of his life.
For a number of terms Mr. Crawford was a member of the city council serving his ward as alderman and the city with the utmost faithfulness and efficiency.
He was probably the oldest member of the local I.O.O.F. Lodge and was a faithful attendant upon its meeting until physically unable to get out.
Uniting with the First Mewthodist church years ago, Mr. lCrawford was one of its most devoted and faithful members, a regular attendant at the Sunday services and a member of the Men's Bible Class as well, never missing a service or class session unless prevented by illness. For some time he had been unalbe to longer attend on account of the increasing infirmities of advanced age.
In her loss the devoted wife and the step children will have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends.
The funeral has been set for Sunday afteroon at 2:30 o'clock with the servies to be donducted at the family residence by his pastor, Rev. J.T. King.
His remains will be laid to rest with the burial ceremonies of the I.O.O.F. order, the local lodge conducting them.
The funerla is under the direction Kleine Brothers Funeral Home."

Burial was at I.O.O.F. Cemetry in Gonzales, Gonzales, Texas.
